PURPOSE: To obtain a laxative with increased palatability composed of a sugar of L-monosaccharide in dose-effective amount, capable of producing laxative effects in humans, being only minimally absorbed from intestine, and having osmotic defecation stimulation effect and a loose bowel movement effect on the small bowel and colon. CONSTITUTION: This composition is composed of a sugar of L-monosaccharide e.g. L-fructose, L-mannose, L-sorbose, or L-glucose, especially L-glucose in dose- effective amount for defecation stimulation, and a permissible carrier. The composition is prepared as a food or pharmaceutical composition containing an L-sugar in 1-3g in a single dosage form, and it is administered in the range of 1-24g a day in terms of the L-sugar. When administered in a high dose, the composition provides not only the treatment effect of heavy constipation but also defecation stimulation effect needed for cleaning bowels for a radiography test, a surgical treatment or a pretreatment in endoscopy. |
