A device for working a continuous strip comprises at least one laser which emits a focused laser beam, an optical system and a polygonal mirror designed as a disk with the mirrors disposed around its edge, which rotates about an axis and deflects the laser beam. To effect a change in the trace of the cut made by the laser beam on the strip by simple means, the laser beam is deflected on the strip, the axes of the mirror make an angle other than 90 DEG with the axis of rotation and the axis of rotation is stationary.
