The lathe chuck body includes a bare jaw and a clamping jaw which can adjust relative to the base jaw. To address it to the work, the basic jaw (1) and clamping jaw are powered radially within the body (2) over a wide clamping range, moving the clamping jaw for chucking over a relatively short path, with the base jaw remaining unchanged relative the chuck body. - The drives for the base jaw are coupled up so that all base jaws move the same amount in the addressing operation.
