<p>The disclosure relates to a modular artificial reef (1) effective to prevent shoreline erosion is constructed of reef-forming modules (1) placed in side-by-side relation and coupled together (12, 13) to prevent relative movement therebetween. The modules (1) preferably having a triangular prismatic shape, include a gently sloping seaward face (20), a beachward face (30) and a base (10) which rests on the sea bottom. The modules (1) are configured (22) to deflect currents, approaching from the sea, away from the beachward face (30). This configuration prevents currents from flowing at high velocity along the beachward face (30) and toward the beachward toe (16).
