The cyclone-type separator has one or more cyclone chambers, in each of which are coaxial tubes (11,12) extending towards each other from opposite walls and connected to a clean-gas outlet. At each of the walls (9.10) is an annular passage (13) round the tube and forming a cyclone housing (14). This is connected by a peripheral slot (15) to the cyclone chamber (16) enclosing the tubes, while at the tube mouth (17) is a spiral housing connected to the annular chamber. The dia. of the cyclone chamber is greater than its height, and the characteristic of the annular cross-section is determined by a formula based on these dimensions and the tube dia.
