The IC engine has an exhaust manifold which increases progressively in dia. as a connecting duct from each individual cylinder is joined to it. The manifold is connected by the exhaust pipe (52) to the silencer (52) with a conical pipe (5200) connecting the two parts (52,521). The conical pipe (520) encloses a smaller dia. pipe (71) which passes through the end wall of the silencer. The open end (71a) of the pipe (71) is partly covered by a baffle plate (513) which prevents the exhaust gases from flowing directly into the silencer. This baffle plate (513) creates a turbulence in the gas flow which increases the effectiveness of the post-combustion of the environmentally harmful products in the exhaust gases.
