PURPOSE:To let stable speed change be compatible with quick speed change by restricting speed change by an operating means at the specified step of gear shifting in the shift range when the operating means is actuated with speeds equal to or more than a definite one at the time of switching the shift range. CONSTITUTION:In a change for R D for example, when a shift lever 1 is slowly rotated, during which, a compression spring 39 and a damper 51 are expanded, No.1 and No.2 detent pins 29 and 33 are pushed up via pin installation members 31 and 35, and the pin 33 is not engaged with a step section 55c so that the lever can thereby be smoothly actuated as far as D. On the other hand, when the shift lever is quickly rotated, the extension of the compression spring 39 energizing the pin 33 is restricted by the viscous resistance of the damper 51, the pin comes in contact with step section 55c of a locking section 55 while the movement of the lever in the direction D is restricted, and the damper 5 is gradually extended thereafter so that shifting can thereby be done. Besides, the movement for R N, N D, D 2, and 1 2 is not restricted, restricting actions however, can be performed against the other movement for P R, N R and 2 1. |
