Spray injection needle valve - has needle fixed in nozzle with edge formed by flats

The injection valve nozzle needle unseats against the flow direction to leave a passage annulus for the fuel jet. The needle (3) is fixed non-rotatably in the nozzle (2) and has at least one edge (9-12) formed by flats (5-8) on and issuing into the needle tip (4). The valve seat (15) should comprise a seal which conforms to the shape of the needle to pack this tight when seated. USE/ADVANTAGE - I.c. engines. Fuel injection. Edged needle at tip ensures flow direction and collation to give thin film m spray of fine droplets.
