The connection between a tubular connecting pipe (3) having an external profile (1) and a connecting piece (5) has an annular intermediate piece (7) which has at one end a projection (9) and at the other end a socket (13) for the connecting piece (5). The projection (9) is pushed sideways onto the connecting pipe (3) to engage positively over the external profile (1) and take up the tensile and/or compressive forces. A security member (17) on the connecting piece (3) engages through the socket inot the inside of the connecting pipe with a tolerance relative to the inside walls so that the intermediate piece (7) is secured against slipping from the external profile (1). The intermediate piece (7) detachably connects the connecting pipe with the connecting piece (5). The projection of the intermediate member is preferably designed as a cylindrical segment (9) which adjoins at most half the circumference of theexternal profile (1) of the connecting pipe (3).
