A process for sealing and/or strengthening a mineral material, includes chemically converting water glass and/or silanes with an alkaline earth salt soln., esp. magnesium-and/or calcium chloride soln. as reaction components. The material is saturated with an aq. electrolyte soln. in order to raise its electrical conductivity, and reactants with positive or negative charge or polarity are supplied to the water glass and/or silane. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is simple and reliable, and is used e.g. to safeguard ground water from contamination.
