PURPOSE:To obtain a dense sintered material of MgO-based beta''-alumina having high ionic conductivity by adding a given amount of sodium aluminate to a molded article of powder consisting essentially of MgO-based beta''-alumina and burning. CONSTITUTION:The above-mentioned sintered material of MaO-based beta''-alumina is produced by preburning a mixture of components of Al2O3, Na2CO3, MgO, etc., to synthesize MgO-based beta''-alumina powder, blending the MgO-based beta''-alumina powder with 0.3-5wt.% sodium aluminate and burning. Namely, beta''-alumina power is uniformly mixed with a given amount of sodium aluminate (NaAlO2) by a ball mill, a vibration mill, etc., and molded into a desired shape by a method such as hydrostatic press, slit case, etc. Then the molded article is burnt in a protecting atmosphere capable of suppressing evaporation of Na at >=1,500 deg.C to give the objective sintered material of MgO-based beta''-alumina. |
