An expansible dowel (1), especially an expansible dowel for fixing a radiator to a wall, consists of a thin-walled metal tube with longitudinal slots (6,7) extending from its inner end. The dowel (1) is expanded radially in two zones by a double coned expander element (2). This expander element (2) has an internal screw thread to receive the end of the expander bolt (3). The expander element (2) has a conical region (18) near its inner end which expands the inner end (8) of the dowel (1). The expander element (2) has a second conical region (12) at its opposite end which engages ribs (21) in the bore of the dowel (1) so that the dowel (1) is expanded in approximately the middle region of its length.
