PURPOSE:To obtain an appropriate photometric value by which the size of a main object and a scene are discriminated by sectioning an area to at least three areas with a selected focus detecting area taken as a center, obtaining the brightness difference between the respective areas and obtaining the photometric value by adding the information on the brightness difference. CONSTITUTION:A field is divided into plural small areas S01-S15 for photometry, and photodetector means SPD, AMP and DI for detecting the brightness of every divided small area and a setting means for sectioning the small area for photometry to the 1st area including the selected focus detecting area, the 2nd area which is the periphery of the 1st area and the 3rd area which is the pheriphery of the 2nd area are provided. Then, a brightness difference detection means for detecting the brightness difference between the 1st and the 2nd areas and the brightness difference between the 2nd and the 3rd areas, and an arithmetic operation means for arithmetically operating the photometric value by using the brightness of the respective small areas obtained by the photodetector means based on the information on the brightness difference obtained by the brightness difference detecting means are provided. Thus, the size of the main object is grasped, the photographing scene is discriminated and the appropriate photometric value obtained by taking all the photographing image planes into consideration is found. |
