PURPOSE:To permit a uniform and efficient indirect heating even or a highly viscous liquid without causing burning by a method wherein a passage for heating medium is formed in a space between an inner and an outer cylinder and a plurality of fixed stirring mechanisms, each consisting of a shaft part provided at the central part of the cross section of an inner cylinder and extending coaxially thereof and a plurality of coaxially angular blades projecting radially and outwardly from the shaft part, are provided in the inner cylinder in coaxially spaced relation to one another. CONSTITUTION:Fixed stirring mechanisms 8 are provided in a liquid passage 61 of each of the inner cylinders 6 through which the liquid to be indirectly heated is passed and the fixed stirring mechanism 8 consists of a shaft part 81 provided at the central part of the cross section of the passage 61 and a plurality of blades 83 projecting from the outer periphery thereof. The end of the shaft part 81 adapted to be arranged upstream of the liquid being treated in the passage 61 is formed into a conical shape having a sharp or curved end, whereby the flow of the liquid in the passage 61 is impinged against the end 82 of the shaft part so as to be turned aside radially, i.e., toward the inner wall 64 of the inner cylinder 6.
