The present invention relates to a method for alleviation of the climacteric symptoms of the menopause and post- menopause in women, involving the administration of an effective amount of a composition containing melatonin and at least one oestrogen and/or at least one androgen, at a daily dosage of oestrogen between about 0.125 mg and about 15 mg and at a daily dosage level of melatonin between about 1 mg and about 2000 mg.
