PURPOSE:To simply inexpensively prepare the subject ether under mild polymerization conditions in a state reduced in the by-production of crosslinked polymers by reacting a specific aromatic hydrocarbon with a sulfidizing agent in the presence of an oxidizing agent and an acid. CONSTITUTION:(A) An aromatic hydrocarbon of the formula (R<1>-R<4> are H, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy) is reacted with (B) a sulfidizing agent in the presence of (C) an oxidizing agent and (D) an acid to prepare the objective ether. For example, p-xylene, atc., and a halogenated sulfur compound such as dechlorinated disulfide are preferable as the components A and B, respectively. |
