The invention relates to a braking device making it possible to double its efficiency on a fast or heavy vehicle. It consists of an inboard system arranged either side of the differential, or, if there is not a differential, on the one hand, in a bearing cage secured to the vehicle and, on the other hand, on the chassis, and of an outboard system located inside each wheel, and of an actuating system comprising two independent pumps (13 and 14) which are actuated from the brake pedal by a coupling rod (12) joining them together. One of the pumps actuates the inboard brakes and the other the outboard brakes. Possibility of decreasing the diameter of the discs by 50 %. The system according to the invention is to be used in a vehicle designed for this purpose. <IMAGE>
