Improved process for the treatment of flue gases containing sulphur and nitrogen oxides comprising treating the said flue gases in a radial reactor in which the catalyst based on copper oxide on alumina runs by gravity into an annular catalytic bed through which the flue gases pass transversely, preferably with a plurality of passages through the bed in which the flue gases encounter the catalyst in different degrees of sulphatation.
