PURPOSE:To attain the exchange of optical communication and to reduce required quantity of optical components by applying wavelength division multiplex to a signal so as to replace the wavelength. CONSTITUTION:Optical switches 120-123 make a wavelength multiplex optical signal from a same input optical highway incident to variable wavelength selective elements 130-133 switchingly via branching devices 110-111 and the variable wavelength selective elements 130-133 select an optical signal of the same wavelength to apply branch connection to connect the incident optical signal to plural outgoing lines simultaneously. In the case of input line number of m.n, output line number m.n and wavelength division multiplexity (n), the required number of the variable wavelength selective elements and the wavelength conversion circuits is both m.n and in total 2m.n thereby reducing the required quantity of the optical components. |
