From signals indicative of the received field strength CAG and the error rate epsilon, measurement data are generated at the level of peripheral monitoring units TMR. The corresponding measurement data are transferred by using data channels extracted from the service multiplex of the various connections, to terminal control stations PCT situated at the two ends of each directrix. Said control stations are configured so as to operate by a general master/slave criterion, in such a way that, in event of interruption of the communications between a main terminal control station A and one or more peripheral units TMR, the corresponding measurement signals are collected from the slaved terminal control station B for subsequent transfer to the main terminal control station A.
