To produce a degradable material, esp. for disposable articles and packaging, a dough is prepd. from materials contg. cellulose and albumen with a fluid. The dough is shaped and baked. The dough is baked in a mould, or is pressed in a mould for baking. The proportion by wt. of the albumen content material and the cellulose content material is held such as at 1:2. Waste materials are used to give the albumen and cellulose required. The material with a cellulose content can be obtd. from waste from the food and/or animal food and/or beverage industries, esp. used hops and/or marc, and contains at least a part of fine ground straw and/or wood and/or grass and/or flax waste distributed near the surface of the material. The material contg. albumen is derived from waste prods. from the starch and/or sugar and/or adhesive industries, esp. potato and/or corn protein and/or molasses. The dough contains corn which expands under heat. The dough is baked until it is brown, and it can contain a colourant. ADVANTAGE - The material is cheap in mfg., and rots rapidly and without difficulty, while able to preserve and keep its contents in use.
