The keyboard is based on two full tone systems, the second of which, the black notes (2), is a half a tone removed from the first, the white notes (1). The white keys (1), based on the scale of C major, produce the tones C, D, F sharp, G sharp, and A sharp. For ease of orientation, the note C in all cases is marked with a cross, and F sharp with a dot. The black keys (2) produce the tones C sharp, D sharp, F, G, A, B.
