Bobbin cross winding allowing longer bobbins to be wound - in which reciprocating motion cross-wise has sections with only one stroke smaller than bobbin length

To wind a cross wound bobbin, partic. with spun fibre yarn, the reciprocating motion to lay the yarn (16) crosswise has sections with only one stroke (24) which is smaller than the bobbin length (25). This reciprocating movement for a short period is overlaid by a total relatively slower forwards and backwards shift of the yarn guide eyelet (18) in the direction of the bobbin axis (21). The reciprocating movement is effected continuously, or given a controlled intermittent action. Between every two steps, the bobbin is partially built up at least by a length matching the amplitude of the reciprocating yarn movement during the short period. The reciprocating movement is carried out in steps broadly matching the amplitude of the stroke motion during the short periods. The final bobbin shape is determined by control of the slow forwards and backwards shifts. ADVANTAGE - The method allows longer bobbins to be wound, without increasing the load on the yarn either on winding or unwinding.
