The synchroniser ring for use in synchromesh gearboxes of motor vehicles is produced by assembling a base ring with a taper bore with an insert which has a male taper, leaving a conical gap. The insert is located by a spigot at a definite distance and the gap is filled with a sinter material powder. Prior covering of the female taper with an adhesion promoter ensures that the sinter layer adheres to the base ring.
