The AC generator has a housing (11) containing an external stator (12) and an internal rotor (13) which is mounted on a drive shaft (14) via a rotor hub (20). The latter is attached to a rim (22) via radial spokes (23), with permanent magnets (27) around a crown (26) at the outer periphery of the rotor (13). The latter has axial and radial ventilation means, the spokes (23) providing the axial ventilation. Pref. each spoke (23) has an aircraft wing cross-section, which is inclined to the horizontal.
