PURPOSE:To improve the operating voltage of a battery, increase the utilizing rate of a negative electrode and obtain a nonaqueous electrolyte battery having excellent discharge characteristic by causing a nonaqueous electrolyte to contain ions of a metal lower in ionizing tendency than Al. CONSTITUTION:In a nonaqueous electrolyte battery formed of a negative elec trode consisting of aluminum or aluminium alloy, a positive electrode, a solvent, and aluminum salt, a nonaqueous electrolyte contains the ion of a metal lower in ionization tendency than aluminum. As the metals lower in ionization ten dency than aluminum, at least one selected from the group consisting of Cu, Fe, Hg, Zn, In, Sn, Sb, Ni, Mn, and Mo can be used. When the nonaqueous electrolyte contains the metal lower in ionization tendency than aluminum, the passivated film on the negative electrode surface is removed. Consequently, the electrochemical reaction of the negative electrode is improved, resulting in an increased utilization rate of the negative electrode, so that the discharge characteristic of the nonaqueous electrolyte battery can be improved. |
