A pharmaceutical unit dosage form is disclosed which comprises a soft gelatin capsule shell or a two-piece hard gelatin capsule and a fill comprising a benzodiazepine dissolved or suspended in a gel, wherein the gel has a drop point (C), prior to encapsulation, of at least 46 and comprises at least 63 % of polyethylene glycol 600, at least 4 % by weight of polyethylene glycol 4000 or 6000 and at least 21 % by weight of an intermediate polyethylene glycol. The gel fill used in the present invention cannot be expelled from a syringe at ambient temperature, and therefore removes the convenience to intravenous drug abusers of a capsule containing a drug dissolved or dispersed in a liquid filling. The capsule fill retains good bioavailability and pharmacokinetic properties. |
