The invention relates to a method for inerting precipitated steelworks flue gas dusts containing hexavalent chromium. In order to make it possible to dump such dusts, which cannot at present be done because of the high solubility of hexavalent chromium in water, the invention proposes that the hexavalent chromium should be bound in an insoluble salt, preferably in a chromate which is insoluble in water and in particular in a relatively acid or basic environment, through the use of a suitable reagent. Preferably, given the special chemical composition of the dusts and their highly basic nature, the invention proposes that barium should be bound with the hexavalent chromium to form barium chromate (BaCrO4) which is only soluble in highly acid environments. <IMAGE> |
