A pyrolysis furnace for olefin production which is based on the coils of the confluent mode in the prior art, but has overcome the drawbacks thereof; ensures the quantity of heat transfer required on the coil inlet side and also is free of a return bend structure to thereby reduce the pressure loss inside the coils; and enables a coil arrangement which has so far been substantially impossible to effect and also can reduce the space of coil arrangement is provided, which pyrolysis furnace is characterized in a structure of vertically arranged reaction tubes wherein the reaction tubes are of two passes or more on the inlet side of a fuel to be decomposed and one pass on the exit side of the resulting hydrocarbons, the tubes on the exit side having a larger diameter than that of the tubes on the inlet side; the respective passes are joined together inside the furnace; and the reaction tubes have no return bend part therein.
