A closure for an explosion-proof and/or flame-proof battery has a sleeve (25) which can be screwed into the battery housing (11) and, on its outer end, has a base (14) with a central hole (15). The central hole (15) is surrounded inside the sleeve by a cylindrical collar (17) which projects inwards. The opposite end of the sleeve from the base (14), that is to say the end lying inside the battery, is closed except for a central perforation (19). A moving piston (21) is guided in the sleeve (12) between the inner end of the sleeve (12) and the free end of the collar (17), an air gap, which satisfies the regulations for explosion and/or fire proofing being provided between the outer surface of the piston (21) and the inner surface of the sleeve (12). If recombinators are provided inside the battery, which recombine oxygen with hydrogen to form water, the piston can then be pressed continuously against the free edge of the collar by means of a compression spring (24). <IMAGE> |
