The device for taking up play includes small columns made from a shape-memory material and which act by pushing on the two matching parts (1) and (2) of the stack of elements, the play or prestress of which is to be adjusted. These small columns are mounted in a support which guides them and on which they bear so as to exert the desired effort on the said parts (1) and (2) of the stack to be adjusted. Applicable: in particular to gear boxes.
