A device for automatic folding of soft, flat products. When it is wished to fold soft, flat products 8, for example airbags, a stiff folding edge is needed for folding around. After folding, the edge has to be removed. This also then means that the edge has to be presented prior to folding. The problem has been solved by the folding edge being constituted by tensionable, long and narrow flexible members 1, preferably wires, the position of which can be varied by the members being coupled to movable slide units via holders 2 at the one end and tensioning elements 3 at the other. The folding is effected such that a batch of wires is first drawn out from the holders by use of a manipulating device 4 belonging to the tensioning elements, is tensioned and placed in position. The product is placed on top. The other wires are now drawn out over the product, are tensioned and positioned. The actual folding is achieved by the lower wires being moved in a semicircular path around the upper wires. Once folding is completed, the wires are drawn back into the holders and the procedure can be repeated. <IMAGE> |
