The arrangement for collecting and compacting refuse, waste, etc., particularly in locations where space is limited, for example in means of transportation such as aircraft, trains or boats, comprises a collecting carriage (1) receiving a removable container (8), which is preferably substantially parallelepipedal, and having an opening in its top for receiving the refuse, and of which the frame is equipped with rolling means (9), such as wheels or castors, and a compactor (11) equipped with a vertical compacting means (13, 14) mounted on a frame (12), the arrangement being such that the said carriage (1) can be engaged reversibly under the compacting means (14) so that the latter can slide in the container (8) from the upper opening of the latter in order to ensure compacting. <IMAGE>
