Device for cutting a tightening strap band (31), comprising a support piece (1) having at least one cutting edge, this support piece having an outer surface which is approximately in the form of a fraction of a cylinder of revolution, the axis of which forms a small or zero angle with the direction of the cutting edge, means (9) being provided in order to make it possible to rotate the support piece through approximately 90 DEG on the said axis. The support piece is integral with an insertion blade (16), the plane of which is adjacent to a plane containing the cutting edge, coincident with this plane, and which includes a first edge (17) which extends the said cutting edge or forms a small angle therewith, and a second edge (18) spaced from the said cutting edge and forming a large angle with the direction of the latter. In order to cut a tightening strap band (31), the insertion blade (16) is inserted under the band, and then the support piece is pivoted through approximately 90 DEG , for example with the aid of a lever (9). As the tightening strap band is then separated from the parcel, a shearing component (20) is brought into action, it being possible for this component to be mounted rotatably about the support piece, in order to shear the band. <IMAGE>
