PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain a high density sharp double color image by applying energy to a thermal transfer recording medium to discolor, color or decolor the colorant in a heat-softenable transfer layer. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer recording medium 1 wherein a heat-softenable transfer layer 12 is provided on a support 11 is fed by a feed means 2 and energy necessary for discorling, coloring or decoloring at least one kind of the active colorant among the active colorants contained in the heat-softenable transfer layer 2 is applied to the heat-softenable layer 2 of the thermal transfer recording medium 1 by an energy applying means 3. Subsequently, heat energy is imagewise applied to the heat-softenable transfer layer 12 containing the active colorant discolored, colored or decolored by the application of energy by a heating means 4 to move the heated part of the heat-softenable transfer layer 12 to a medium to be recorded. By this method, a double color image having high printing density and high quality is efficiently obtained. |
