NEW MATERIAL:A phthalonitrile of formula I (R is unsubstituted or substituted alkyl). EXAMPLE:A compound of formula II. USE:Useful as an intermediate for near-infrared light absorbers to be used in the recording layers of existing optical recording media compatible and commonly usable with and additionally recordable on CD players. PREPARATION:3-Nitrophthalonitrile and an alcohol are heated and agitated at 50-120 deg.C in an aprotic polar solvent (e.g. dimethylformamide, dimethylsulfoxide) in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. sodium hydroxide, 1,4- diazabicyclo(2,2,2)-octane), and the system is fed into water followed by extraction, recrystallization, etc., with an organic solvent such as toluene, thus obtaining the objective compound of the formula I. And, this compound and a metal derivative are heated and agitated in a high boiling solvent in the presence of a catalyst, and the system is fed into water followed by extraction with an organic solvent, thus obtaining the other objective phthalocyanine near- infrared light absorber of formula III. |
