PURPOSE:To efficiently produce the above transmission body by coating a fibrous base material with a polymerizable compsn. consisting of a monomer essentially consisting of a specific monomer and a polymer and diffusing the monomer into the fibrous base material, then polymerizing the unpolymerized monomer. CONSTITUTION:A mixture composed of the polymer (A) having a refractive index NA and the monomer (B) to impart the polymer having a refractive index NB (NA>NB) is formed as the fibrous base material and the monomer (B) is evaporated from this base material, by which a refractive index distribution is preliminarily formed from the center of the base material toward the peripheral part. The outer periphery of the base material is thereafter coated with the polymerizable compsn. consisting of the monomer essentially composed of the monomer (C) which has the high compatibility with this polymer (A) and imparts the polymer of a refractive index NC (NC<NA) and the polymer (D) and after the monomer (C) is diffused into the fibrous base material, the unpolymerized monomer is polymerized. The continuous production similar to glass or plastic optical fiber is possible in this way and the distributed index type light transmission body having good transparency is obtd. |
