Bacterial compsn. for removing petroleum contaminants from water and soil comprises Pseudomonas putida strain 36 in a mineral salt mixt. of (in wt.%): KNO3 34.26-37.12, NH4Cl 28.66-31.28, NH4H2PO4 25.42-28.71 and NH4NO3 2.89-11.66. The live cell content is pref. 1.8 x 10 power 10 to 3.6 x 10 power 12 per g. of dry biomass and the wt. ratio of the bio-component to mineral salt mixt. is pref. 1:26-32. The compsn. includes an inert carrier, pref. water, the cell concn. in the aq. compsn. being 104-106 per ml and total salt concn. being 0.07-0.08 wt.%. Water and soils are purified by applying the compsn., pref. at a dosage of 350-800 mg. per sq. in. of surface. The contaminants may be crude oil or its derivs. |
