The control unit (5) has a first interface stage (7) fed with a clock signal (UT) and a cylinder signal (UZ).A second inter-face (8) preceeds the ignition output stage (2), this second interface feeding, via a first and a second control line (9,10), a first a second signal for dwell angle anf ingition distant control to respective first or second cylinder groups. The two interfaces are coupled by a single line (11) over which the clock signal modulated by the cylinder signal is sent to provide the control a signal.
