The device allows the traffic to be diverted to different traffic lanes, to allow road maintenance or to relieve traffic congestion, using traffic flow markings (13,14,15) attached to the road surface. The traffic flow markings (13,14,15) are provided as flexible mats of a high wear-resistant material which can be rolle dup when not in use, its background colour being approximately the same as that of the road surface. Pref. the signs (16) carried by each mat are brightly coloured in red, green or yellow, the mats themselves pref. made of rubber with metal entry and exit ramps, the underside profiled to provide grip.
