An optical isolator apparatus (10) is disclosed for isolating a light source (12) comprising a first polarizer (14), a Faraday rotator (16), an optically active rotator (18) and a second polarizer (20). The optically active rotator compensates for the dispersion of the Faraday rotator which is achieved by (i) orienting the optically active rotator so that the amount of angular rotation of the Faraday rotator is different than the amount of angular rotation of the optically active rotator, and (ii) the slope of the Faraday rotator's dispersion curve at a central wavelength is approximately identical to the slope of the dispersion curve of the optically active rotator. |
