Sandwich construction material has a core of plastics, polyurethane foam or styrene foam, a surrounding reinforcement of knitted fabrics, matts, mesh etc. with high strength fibres such as glass, carbon etc., and a polymer (and epoxy resin in particular) which impregnates the reinforcement and forms a skin. The core is wrapped round by the reinforcement; joins between individual fibres or sheets of reinforcement adjoin the dividing line; the impregnating resin is a two-part foam and an epoxy type in particular. Pref. a core (6) of a resin foam is enveloped all round with reinforcement (7) which is held in position by (8) e.g. staples, pins, adhesive etc. The reinforcement (7) consists of several layers (9,10,11) of suitable fabric etc. made with the appropriate fibres (12) or wire etc. The layers (9,10) are continuous wraps, to avoid high stress points. A mounting base (17) is incorporated for fixing purposes when the final prod. is being used. The outer resin (16) forms the ADVANTAGE - Prod. has a high mechanical strength and its surface takes coatings well. The complete visible face is produced in a single operation.
