<p>This gas pressure generating engine has a totally unconnected piston (33) running between a combustion chamber (49) and a rebounding volume (37). The piston (33) uncovers an outlet port (22) after moving a short distance from the combustion chamber (49) and utilizes the rest of the piston's long stroke to draw in new air; after which, advancing back towards the combustion chamber (49) pumping, to the oulet (22), a large part of the drawn-in air. The remainder of the drawn-in air is further compressed for combustion. The stroke of the piston (33) is restricted only by the energy it receives from the combustion chamber (49). The rebounding volume's pressure is adjustable to adjust the pressure-volume ratio of the outlet gas. A tuned valve (21) in the outlet (22) and a tuned blowdown tube (23) maximize gas momentum scavenging of the combustion chamber (49) to improve the efficiency and extend the operating range of the engine.</p> |
