Readily volatised impurities, e.g. hydrocarbons, dissolved in a body of liq. in a tank are entrained and removed from the liq. by bubbles of gas, esp. air, rising through the liq. from a vol. of gas trapped below the liq. surface. The space above the liq. surface is held at reduced pressure by a blower and helps to draw up the bubbles, e.g. from the space below a flanged trap with air nozzles and suspended from a float on the liq. surface. Atmos. air is drawn into the space below the trap via a flexible conduit contg. a filter and before final discharge is taken through a further filter, e.g. of active charcoal, for sepg. the volatile materials.
