Objective growth activator contains the branched oligosaccharides consisting of glucose molecules with alpha-1,4-bonds, as the major ingredients. Examples of applicable branches oligosaccharides are isomaltose, isomaltotriose, panose, isomaltotetraose, etc.. The branched oligosacchrides are prepd., e.g., (a) by treating aq. above 50% glucose soln. with the enzyme showing sugar-condensing activity such as glucoamylase or (b) by treating starch with alpha-amylase and debranching enzyme and treating thus obtd. starch hydrolysate with transferase such as alpha-glucosidase. By the method (a) the branched oligosaccharide mainly of disaccharide and trisaccharide, can be obtd. and by the method (b) the branched oligosaccharide mainly of trisaccharide and tetrasaccharide, can be obtd. Thus obtd. branched oligosaccharide soln. is, if necessary, further treated for removing glucose and maltose and the soln. having branched oligosaccharide content 90% or higher, can be obtd. It can be used with pantothenic acid and riboflavin for attaining good growth-activating effect on Bifidus bacteria. |
