An improved method and apparatus for removing grit from sewage comprising passing sewage containing grit along a channel (33), the sewage passing initially through a straight elongate portion (37) of constant width (35) and of length (39) sufficient to stabilise the flow and subsequently passing the sewage around a bend portion (41) having an angle of at least 10 degrees from the straight portion (37) and, downstream of the bend (41), removing the grit from the flow via a port (51) situated at the inside of the bend (41) at the base of the channel via a grit hopper (67) coupled to the port (51) and coupled to a draw-off point (71) to remove the grit for disposal. |
