The appts. has movable side pins (120,121) and verticallymovable pins (140,141) as well as stationary side pins (122,123,142,143) for holding the spectacles frame (230). The detecting head (200) is in the form of a disc-shaped probe. A table rotating motor (162) and two other motors (211,218) provide relative movement between the held frame and detecting head. A calculating unit measures the form of shape of the group of an edge by allowing the detecting head to move along the groove and then along the groove of the other edge in order to measure it. The form of the spectacles frame is calculated from the measured data of the grooves of the pair of sides and the amt. of relative movement of the motor-driven moving arrangement. ADVANTAGE - Simple positioning of frame. Precision measuremened of shape or form.
