The invention provides benzyl-tris(aryl)-phosphonium salts of the general formula in which R<1> represents an optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxy group; R<2> represents a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted alkyl group; R<3>, R<4> and R<5> independently represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or an optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxy group; and A<-> represents an anion; processes for their preparation; compositions containing such compounds and their use as fungicides.
