PURPOSE:To obtain the subject base cloth useful for glass field, etc., having excellent wear resistance by impregnating nonwoven cloth made of synthetic fibers having a net-like structure with a polyurethane solution, incompletely coagulating in water at a normal temperature, etc., and completely coagulating at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:Nonwoven cloth made of synthetic fibers having a net-like structure is impregnated with a polyurethane (preferably ether-based polyurethane resin) solution and the resultant composition is coagulated to produce a base cloth for polishing. In said process, the resultant composition is incompletely coagulated by dipping in water at a normal temperature (preferably for <=1hr) or in hot water (preferably for <=20min) and subsequently residual solvent is removed in an atmosphere of about 75+ or -5 deg.C, then the composition is completely coagulated to afford the objective base cloth. |
