The invention relates to a device for safeguarding the proper functioning of an electrical apparatus in the case of a failure in the power supply network, characterised in that it comprises a backup power source (5; 11 to 13) which can be connected up, in place of the power network (2), to the terminals of the apparatus to be safeguarded (1; 10), by way of a switching circuit (3, 4) and a control circuit (6; 14) connected to the said switching circuit, including a first input (6a) connected to a circuit (7) for detecting the disappearance of the said network and a second input (6b) connected to a circuit (8) delivering a signal in response to an order for switching on the said electrical apparatus, the said control circuit (6; 14) acting on the said switching circuit so as to connect the said backup source to the apparatus only in the case where a network-disappearance signal and an apparatus switch-on signal are present simultaneously at its inputs.
